pho·bi·a
/ˈfōbēə/
noun
plural noun: phobias
1.
an extreme or irrational fear of or aversion to something.
So I know what I’m about to do isn’t sticking strictly to the rules, but let’s say ‘phobia’ was simply a word that gives each and every one of your fears a name; be it big or small.
Here are what some of mine would be if we thought of the word as such, simply a name for a fear; a label:
Ankylophobia
Asthenophobia
Ataxophobia
Athazagoraphobia
Automatonophobia
Catagelophobia
Chemophobia
Chiroptophobia
Cleithrophobia
Cryophobia
Decidophobia
Dishabiliophobia
Doxophobia
Ecophobia
Epistaxiophobia
Gelotophobia
Lilapsophobia
Mnemophobia
Nostophobia
Obesophobia
Onomatophobia
Panthophobia
Paralipophobia
Philophobia
Soteriophobia
Pogonophobia
Mastigophobia
Carcinophobia
Bathophobia
Pathophobia
Claustrophobia
Kakorrhaphiaphobia
Phobophobia
Pyrophobia
Hypsophobia
Thassophobia
Atelophobia
Limnophobia
Leprophobia
Pediculophobia
Ermitophobia
Acarophobia
Gymnophobia

Peniaphobia
Hydrophobophobia
Katagelophobia
Ophidiophobia

Arachnophobia
Laliophobia
Chronophobia
Kenophobia
Asthenophobia
Aeroacrophobia
Agraphobia
Now mind you, these aren’t extreme or irrational fears of mine, simply everyday fears that I’d think most of humanity is afraid of. See what I did though? I labeled them all. I took a word and used it out of context and in doing so, I now seem as if though I’m some crazy who is suffering from pantophobia (the fear of everything). When in reality, I’m just like you, as normal as can be. Okay that’s not true, but at least I don’t have a actual list of phobias.
See this is what society does. Take your kid to the doctor because you think he has too much energy and all of a sudden some lousy ass doctor puts him on meds because he “has”ADHD. Or tell your doctor that you’ve been having mood swings lately and they go and diagnose you with Cyclothymia. Children are naturally energetic ad although some do truly have ADHD, that doesn’t mean you can go diagnosing every kid who jumps around a bit after having too much candy like that. And Cyclothymia? People naturally have mood swings! Doctors can’t go claiming that certain of us have that based on bloody mood swings. Society is seeking out opportunities to put a label on you, it’s seeking out opportunities to define you as weak. Don’t let it. You are stronger than you think and you’re so much stronger than the people around you know. It’s time to show them your strength, don’t let people tell you that there’s something wrong with you when there isn’t.
And remember, just because you have fears doesn’t make you weak. It just means that you’re human and being human can be a beautifully wonderful thing.
